Lady Tigers Extend NLC Track Win Streak

Lady Tigers Extend NLC Track Win StreakSYRACUSE – Hannah-Marie Lamle won three events for Wawasee, but Warsaw’s depth was far too great for either the Lady Warriors or NorthWood to handle Tuesday at Warrior Field.
The Lady Tiger track team extended its winning streak in the Northern Lakes Conference to 59 meets with a 105-27 win over Wawasee and a 112-20 decision over NorthWood. Wawasee earned a split with a 74-54 win over the Lady Panthers.
Lamle won the long jump, and the 100 and 300 hurdles. Other winners for Wawasee were Jada Parzygnot in the pole vault and Alexis Manges in the discus.
“We are pleased at the progress our field events are making,” said Wawasee coach Scott Lancaster. “Our top-end athletes like Manges, Lamle, and Parzygnot continue to get better and more consistent. They are doing the things right now that will help them compete for a title at the NLCs.
“I think those three will be in the mix at the NLC Meet, it is just a matter of making the most of the moment when it comes.”
Warsaw used its depth to roll away from the other two teams. The Lady Tigers won 10 events, taking the top two spots in six of those events, went 1-2-3 twice and swept the top four spots twice.
Abbi Curtis was a double-winner for  Warsaw, taking the 100 and 200. Other Lady Tiger winners were Alexie Day in the high jump,  Page Desenberg in the shot put, Dayton Groninger in the 1,600, Mia Beckham in the 800 and Charlene Orr in the 3,200. The Lady Tigers won all three relay races as well.
Warsaw coach Matt Thacker knew his team was likely to win, and changed his normal lineup.
“We tried some things in sprints and field events, and got some questions answered. It went about as well as we thought we could compete,” he said.
“Mia Beckham ran three races tonight, and she thought we were punishing her; we were just helping her train. And we got out of here without any injuries. Throws are coming along, and we’ve improved in the pole vault and long jump with more (personal records), so that’s always good to see.
“It was nice to get out and run again after the Southport meet got cancelled (Saturday). It was good to compete and get something under our legs heading into the conference meet and tournament season. Hopefully, the Kokomo Relays don’t get cancelled this weekend.”
The Lady Tigers (8-0, 6-0 NLC)  are scheduled to compete in the Kokomo Relays on Saturday, then close out NLC competition at Plymouth on Tuesday. Wawasee (1-4 NLC) will head to the John Reed Relays in Kendallville on Saturday, then close out its conference season with Northridge at Elkhart Memorial Tuesday.
