WABASH — The Manchester girls basketball team snapped a 13-game losing streak against the Wabash Lady Apaches Saturday. Defeating Wabash 57-46, the Lady Squires didn’t only snap a losing skid to the Lady Apaches, but also moved into a first-place tie in the Three Rivers Conference with Tippecanoe Valley, who lost to Rochester Saturday night, and sits at 4-1 in conference play. The win was also Manchester’s fifth-straight, with their last loss coming on Dec. 30 at Northfield High School against Wabash, who won 44-21 in the Wabash County Tournament championship game. In the win, junior Kayla Flack had 16 points and 13 rebounds against the Lady Apaches, while senior Hannah Little had a team-high 20 points to go with nine rebounds. Also for Manchester, senior Hanna Schmidt scored 14 points. The 12-3 (4-1 TRC) Lady Squires host Fort Wayne Blackhawk tonight. WRESTLING Saturday in Russiaville
Taking part in Saturday’s Western Duals, the Wawasee wrestling team went 3-2, defeating Winamac (38-36), Pioneer (59-12) and Wabash (66-0), but losing to Western (43-30) and Peru (40-30). On the day, Wawasee’s Greg Newman, Chad Eppley and Dimitri Kaplanis all went 5-0. Newman went 4-0 with two pins at 106 pounds, while also posting a 113-pound win against Pioneer. At 220, Eppley went 5-0 with two pins, while Kaplanis posted five pins to go perfect at 285. Wawasee will travel to Warsaw Saturday for the Northern Lakes Conference Championships.
