FORT WAYNE – The Manchester Lady Squires opened the 2018 golf season by playing in a loaded field at Chestnut Hills Monday.
The 14-team Homestead Invite featured eight teams that advanced to the regional last year.
Manchester shot a four-person score of 378 and finished sixth.
Kelsey Eichenauer led the Lady Squires with an 85, while Cora Barnett shot 96, Madyson Ulrey and Sam Kissell 98 and 99, respectively, and Morgan Stroud 102.
“We got off to a rough start but we battled and stayed in the moment pretty well for the first invite of the year,” said Manchester coach Josh Troyer. “I’m proud of the girls’ determination to stay in the moment and enjoy the journey today.
“We had some shots we can build off of but the 20 penalty strokes really hurt us today. We will get back at it on a difficult Knollwood Country Club East Course as we play in both Indiana and Michigan.”
The Lady Squires play today in the Penn Invitational.
