PERU – The Manchester Lady Squire tennis team won 4-1 over Southwood to claim its third-straight sectional title on Friday.

The two teams squared up against one another on Monday, with the Lady Squires winning 5-0 against the Three Rivers Conference foe.

Manchester won easily in the singles matches.

The Lady Squires got their first team point from No. 1 singles Kelsey Eichenauer. She won 6-1, 6-0. “Kelsey cut down on errors and improved her footwork,” said Manchester coach Joel Eichenauer. “(Kelsey) took control of points early and finished the match quickly. It was an impressive performance.”

Halle Briner won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Lydia Little won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.

The duo of Rebekah Pyle and Lauren Metzger won handily at No. 2 doubles. The pair only lost three games in two sets, winning 6-1, 6-2.

The No. 2 doubles pair of Kendra Auler and Eva Bazzoni had a tough match. They won the first set 7-6 after having to go into a tiebreaker, which they won 7-5.

The next set went in favor of Southwood, which won 6-4. Manchester dropped the next set 6-3 and lost the match.

The lost didn’t matter though, the Lady Squires already had three victories and were sectional champions.

“I’m so proud of our entire team for their dedication and daily effort to improve,” said Eichanauer. “Our fan support was phenomenal and is a fantastic team to coach and have fun with.”

Manchester will play Warsaw at the Culver Academies Regional on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
