AKRON – Karen Shoemaker Horoho, 66, Warsaw, and formerly of Akron and Kokomo, died at 9:02 p.m. Jan. 29, 2014, in University Hospital of Indianapolis after being hospitalized for three weeks.
She was born Oct. 22, 1947, in Detroit, Mich., to Winston and Anna King Montague. She was married to Jack Shoemaker, and then she married Randy Horoho, who died July 27, 2007.
She worked for Torin-Brookside, Rochester, and Chrysler, Kokomo. She graduated from Triton High School in 1965. She enjoyed her grandkids, remodeling homes and traveling as well as being a people lover.
Surviving are a daughter, Anna Gates Baillieul, Rochester; a son, Rick Shoemaker, Akron; seven grandchildren: Aubrey, Alexis and Avery Gates, and Kaitlin, Sage, Tatum and Greyson Shoemaker; six sisters: Sally (and spouse Roger) McPeak, Pittsburgh, Texas; Jeanene (and spouse Troy) McGuire Snohomish, Wash.; Elaine (and spouse Bud) Wetzel, Winona Lake; Deb (and spouse Marvin) Eberly and Cheryl (and spouse Richard) McDonald, all of Warsaw; Nancy Rockhill, Westfield; three brothers: Tom (and spouse Val) Montague, Westminster, Colo.; Richard (and spouse Becki) Montague, Westfield; Michael (and spouse Karen) Montague, Downers Grove, Ill.; and 103 nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Russell Shoemaker; her parents; a brother, Jimmy Montague; and a sister, Aleta Montague.
Services will be at noon Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
