GOSHEN - Joyce "Max Ummel, 70, of Columbia City, died at 1 a.m. Oct. 15, 2010, in Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City, where he lived for 17 years.

He was born July 31, 1940, in Elkhart County, to Edward and Edith Anglemyer Ummel.

He was a 4-H members for 11 years. He attended Beaver Dam School for 12 years, graduating in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1965-66. He was an auto mechanic for Ford Motor Co., Rochester, fir 30 years. He later worked at Snipes Feed Mill, Talma, until Feb. 13, 1993.

Surviving are four sisters: Carol Hines, Avilla; Joan Kirkham, Greencastle; Lois (and spouse Arlo) Knouff, Larwill; and Phyllis Swick, Columbia City; and two brothers, D. Eldon Ummel, Syracuse, and Herbert (and spouse Muriel) Ummel, Wakarusa. He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
