John S. Frederich

John S. Frederich, 95, died at 12:45 a.m. Jan. 30, 2011, in his Atwood residence.

He was born Feb. 28, 1915, in Lexington, Ky., to Harry Campbell and Ellen Kathleen McCartt Frederich. On Nov. 13, 1940, in Lexington, he married Juanita Hope Wolf, who survives.

He moved to Indiana in 1938, and began working at Creighton Brothers in 1938, retiring in May 1996. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky's School of Agriculture in 1938. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood, where he held many positions including Sunday school teacher, board member and finance chair; he was a charter member of Atwood Lions Club; sat on the boards of Warsaw Community Schools and Kosciusko Community Hospital; and was "honorary mayor" and "tour guide" of Atwood for the filming of Across Indiana (PBS). He went to Russia with People to People, host to young men's farmer's exchange program with students from Poland and Korea. He was the recipient of the Golden Egg Award given by the Indiana State Poultry Association and of Warsaw's 1987 Man of the Year Award.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sue (and spouse Paul) Errington, Muncie, and Mavis (and spouse Joe) Barnett, Elwood; a son, Tom (and spouse Ann) Frederich, De Motte; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Frederich, Lexington; grandchildren: Sara (and spouse Mark) Errington Trodden, Syracuse, N.Y.; Amy (and spouse Jason) Overstreet, Raleigh, N.C.; Anna Barnett, Columbus, Ind.; David (and spouse Anna) Styers-Barnett, Indianapolis; Michael Frederich, Charlotte, N.C.; Jonathan Frederich, Chicago, Ill.; Mary Kathryn Frederich, De Motte; Sheri Beth (and spouse Andy) Schafer, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Ryan (and spouse Karen) Dusek, Houston, Texas; and Ginny (and spouse Jack) Hodgkin, Lexington; great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Rachel, Gillian, Kennedy, Addie, Grant, Vivian, Norah, Tyler and Clara; and a brother, Donald Joe Frederich, Lexington. He was preceded in death by a son, David Frederich, who died Jan. 9, 2011, and two brothers, Harry Frederich, circa 1916, and Karl Frederich, who died in April 1983.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood, officiated by Pastor Jerry Thomas of the church. A graveside service will be at a later date in Stony Point Cemetery, Atwood.

Memorial calling is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.
