NORTH WEBSTER — Jan M. Carter Cormican, 72, Leesburg, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at her home.

She was born Nov. 14, 1945, in Indianapolis, to Donald William and Ruth Marie Hamer Hauser.

She graduated in 1963 from Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, 1967 from Ball State University in Muncie where she also received her master’s degree in 1968. She taught English literature for 25 years, first at Danville High School, then for 23 years at Westfield High School. She grew up in the Indianapolis area and moved to Leesburg in 1995 from Westfield.

She was married on Feb. 23, 1996, in North Webster, to Roger E. Cormican who survives.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and former member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 253, both in North Webster.  

She is survived by her husband, Roger Cormican, Leesburg; daughter, Shannon (Steve) Roddel, Mishawaka; son, Brian (Laura) Carter, Leesburg; five grandchildren; and a sister, Carole Shelby, North Webster

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, Warsaw.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, with Pastor David Smitley, former minister of North Webster United Methodist Church, officiating.
