MENTONE — James R. Groves, 85, Yellow Creek Lake, Claypool, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, in Mentone.
He was born June 29, 1932, in Parkston, S.D., to Taylor and Marie Straka Groves. On Nov. 30, 1958, in Claypool, he was married to Reta R. Reed. She survives.
James had been a carpenter and mason for many years.
He was a 1951 graduate of Burket High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of the Mentone Masonic Lodge, the American Legion of Laketon and the Silver Lake Lions Club, where he was active at fish fries and called bingo. He was a lifetime member of Sycamore Golf Club, where he was an avid golfer and helped with grounds maintenance.
Survivors include his wife, Reta Groves, Yellow Creek Lake; a daughter, Carolyn Groves, Warsaw; and a grandson, Josh Johnson, Yellow Creek Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ted A. Groves; and two brothers, Leland Groves and Eldon Groves.
Following his wishes, no services will be held at this time.
Place of remembrance is Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
Arrangements are entrusted to King Memorial Home, Mentone.
