James Patrick Wilhoite

MUNCIE - James Patrick Wilhoite, 37, passed away Nov. 23, 2008, at his residence in Muncie as a result of a heart attack.

He was born in Muncie to James E. and Patricia A. Dorton Wilhoite, who survive. He married Tanya Marie Cowan, his best friend, who survives.

He attended Cowan schools and graduated from Burris High School. He served in the Marines in the early 1990s.

He was employed in the family business at Wilhoite Monuments, and was president of the Indiana Monument Builders Association. He enjoyed being with his two daughters and especially coaching their softball teams at Cowan. He also liked playing softball, bowling, fishing and traveling and was a loyal supporter of the Chicago Cubs.

Also surviving are his two daughters, Hannah Marie Wilhoite and Virginia Anne Wilhoite; his sister, Anne Marie (and spouse Jon) LaRue, Marysville, Wash.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Gertrud Cowan, Crawfordsville; and his grandmother, Frances Dorton, Eaton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Dorton and Mary and Leroy Wilhoite.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tomlinson Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Parson Mortuary, 801 W. Adams St., Muncie.
