Editor, Times-Union: Did you know that each year somewhere between 600,000 and 820,000 men, women and children are trafficked? Human trafficking is the recruitment of people with threats so they can then have power over the people they abducted. This has been going on for years and it needs to end now. I am writing this letter to you because people all over are taken from their own families and are beaten, given drugs, sometimes raped. Bad things are going on and people need to learn that they need to do something about this and try to form together so they can try to stop the ones that are doing these things.
Have you heard about Kony? If not, you should go online and check out some videos about him. There is a great one on Youtube called “Kony 2012.” There are stories about what Kony makes little kids do and it might help change people’s views on human trafficking if you don’t really believe that it’s going on or is boring. Many people look past things that talk about children being abducted and I think people need to realize why it’s so important to pay attention to these things because it might actually help someone.
One story is about a six year old girl named Srey Pov. Her family sold her to a brothel and she was raped and treated terribly. When she would rebel against them, they would put her in a barrel filled with sewage as her punishment. The longest she stayed in there was a week, but she finally escaped three years later. Now at age 19, she is not afraid to be around men anymore and she now realizes that not all men are as bad as the ones who tortured her.
I’m asking you to try to join together and help all these kids that haven’t escaped and the ones that might be taken next. You could start by watching the “Kony 2012” video on Youtube to find out more about this. These kids need help as soon as possible. Thank you for reading this and hopefully this will help you try to change the way that things are happening.
