Homicide Victim Stabbed 63 Times, Autopsy Shows

David Strowder Jr. was stabbed 63 times, according to court documents filed Thursday.

Strowder, 21, was found face down, unconscious on the side of the road Monday night near CR 300N. He was transported to Kosciusko?Community Hospital where he died.

An autopsy revealed the 63 stab wounds.

Police arrested Derrick Wandrick, 23, Harvey Ill., ?Wednesday, and he was charged with murder Thursday.

Wandrick is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail without bond.

Police spoke with Strowder’s girlfriend, Dakoda Cruz, who told them Wandrick and Strowder lived together with Strowder’s sister, Davonna Strowder.





Davonna gave police two bloody shirts that she said belonged to Wandrick. Davonna also pointed to shoes that matched the tread of a shoe print left at the scene.

Police spoke with Wandrick at the Elkhart Police Department. During the interview, Wandrick admitted he was driving Strowder’s silver Jeep in the Warsaw area and drove the car back to Elkhart.  

Also during the interview, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department detective noticed a cut on Wandrick’s hand.

Police took pictures of Wandrick’s shoes and   matched them to the shoe print found at the crime scene.

Police obtained two cell phones from Wandrick. One of the phones had blood on the back of it.?Davonna identified one of the phones as belonging to her brother.

Police found the Jeep in?Elkhart, where they discovered a cut on the passenger’s seat as well as blood inside the vehicle.

Police spoke with witnesses who say they saw Wandrick at a Warsaw residence Monday night, trying to clean the blood out of the Jeep with bleach water.

Near the Warsaw residence, police found a shoe print in the soil. Underneath the soil, police found a knife that they believed to be the murder weapon.

Police have not provided details of a possible motive.

A news conference concerning the case was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
