A Syracuse man admitted in Kosciusko Superior Court III Tuesday to causing a crash that killed two people on Christmas Day.
Mickgomery Hisey, 27, pleaded guilty to two counts of driving while intoxicated causing death and two counts of driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.
Hisey originally faced eight felony counts and one misdemeanor count in connection with the crash.
The other five counts were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Under the agreement with prosecutors, Hisey faces eight to 14 years behind bars.
After Hisey is released from prison, his driver’s license will be suspended for 12 years.
Judge Joe Sutton canceled a jury trial that was scheduled for early October. He took the plea under advisement and set sentencing for Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
The accident happened in an area of Syracuse known as “Crazy Corners.”
Police say Hisey was drunk and speeding while driving on CR 1200N. Hisey tried to pass another vehicle at the crest of a hill. Hisey ran a stop sign and struck a car driven by Stephen Conrad head on.
Conrad’s wife, Kim, and son, Stephen Conrad II, were killed in the accident.
The elder Conrad, Hisey and Brody Jordan, a passenger in Hisey’s vehicle, were injured in the crash.
Hisey’s blood-alcohol level was .12, according to court records.
