Briner Sets School Records; Vikings Sweep Squires

NORTH MANCHESTER – Freshman Halle Briner set two new Manchester girls swimming school records, but visiting Tippecanoe Valley swept the Three Rivers Conference meet Wednesday evening. The Lady Vikings took an 84-76 win with the boys team emerging with a 112-51 victory.

Briner won the 50 freestyle in 25.29 seconds, breaking the old record of 25.51 established in 1989, then broke the 23-year-old record in the 500 free. Briner’s time of 5:28.23 was a full second better than the previous school record.

The Lady Squire rookie has now set school records in seven events this season. The other five are the 200 free, 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Briner, Jennifer Robles, Cora Barnett and Skye Fierstos won the 200 medley relay. Lillian Myers teamed with Fierstos, Barnett and Briner to win the 200 free relay. Fierstos also won the 100 free and Barnett the 200 IM.

Mayde Fear won the 200 freestyle for the Lady Vikings, and Tiphanie Hodge the diving competition. Olivia Livengood won the 100 butterfly, Jerzey Conley the 100 backstroke and Haley Baker the 100 breaststroke. Valley got the points they needed to win the meet with an uncontested 1-2 finish in the 400 free relay.

Chase Brower was a double-winner for the Viking boys, with wins in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. He was also part of the winning medley and 400 free relays.

Jacob Wagner won the 200 free, Dakota Prater the 100 free, Zach Hodge the diving and Camden Tucker the 100 butterfly for Valley.

Manchester’s Parker York took a pair of wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and was a member of the 200 freestyle relay. Luke Donathan won the 500 freestyle for the Squires.

Tippecanoe Valley won’t compete again until after the holidays, when it joins Huntington North and Rochester for a meet at Warsaw Jan. 3. Manchester will travel to Elwood for a meet on Monday.
