High School Roundup – Lady Tigers 5th; LCA’s Fishel 10th At Plymouth InvitePLYMOUTH – Warsaw opened its girls golf season with a fifth-place finish at the Plymouth Invitational, contested at Pretty Lake Golf Club Wednesday. The Lady Tigers turned in a team score of 211.

Sophomore Grayson Kilburn paced the Lady Tigers with a 53, followed by junior Izzy Ray with a 55. Miriam Hagg had a 56, Madelyn Ray a 57 and Delaney Wihebrink shot a 58 for Warsaw.

Lakeland Christian Academy’s Abi Fishel was 10th, turning in a 48 at Pretty Lake.

South Bend St. Joseph won the team title with a 171. Northridge was second at 183, followed by Bremen at 185  and Mishawaka Marian at 206. A total of 12 teams competed in the tourney.

Warsaw teed off at Stonehenge Golf Club this morning, hosting Chesterton and LaPorte. The Lady Tigers will play in the East Noble Invitational in Kendallville at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Huntington North Tourney


HUNTINGTON – Manchester finished third and Wawasee seventh at the Huntington North Invitational girls golf tournament held at Norwood Golf Club Wednesday.

Kelsey Eichenauer finished sixth overall with an 85, leading the Lady Squires to a score of 365 for the 18-hole event. Samantha Kissel was eighth with an 87 for Manchester.

Lydia Little shot a 93 for the Lady Squires, with Cora Barnett and Lydia Little each shooting an even 100. Morgan Stroud shot a 117 and Alissa Bickerstaff posted a 129.

“I’m very proud of how the girls rebounded and battled today, being our third day (of competition) in a row,” Manchester coach Josh Troyer said. “We know we need some practice time to work out some kinks and make that next jump. but we are ready to put in the work and continue to improve.”

Belle Brummer led Wawasee with a 92, with Lesley Tayagua shooting a 101. Ava Harker and Zoe White each shot 102, and Jadison Rostochak turned in a 103 for the Lady Warriors.

“I thought Belle did a great job, and Ava played pretty well for her first 18-hole event,” Wawasee coach Steve Coverstone said.

The Lady Squires teed off this morning in the Manchester Invitational at Sycamore Golf Club. Wawasee will host Concord and Whitko this afternoon at Maxwelton. Wawasee and Manchester will play each other at Maxwelton on Monday.



Whitko Baseball Earns Academic Honor

SOUTH WHITELY – Whitko’s 2017 baseball team was one of four programs in Indiana to be presented with a Team Academic Excellence Award by the American Baseball Coaches Association, according to former Wildcat coach Erik Hisner.
