Wawasee Baseball Falls In Home Opener To Wabash
SYRACUSE – The Wawasee baseball team opened its 2018 slate on Wednesday night, losing 6-2 against Wabash.
The Warriors (0-1) out-hit the Apaches (1-0) 7-6, but their defense struggled. Wabash was able to force four errors, which helped the team score four unearned runs in the victory.
Carter Woody pitched 4.1 innings for Wawasee and struck out four Apache batters. In the 96 pitches he threw, 57 were strikes. He allowed one earned run in the contest.
Jacob Garcia pitched 1.2 innings in relief for the Warriors, striking out two Apaches.
The pitching staff walked five Wabash batters, but Wawasee only had one walk while on offense.
In the batter’s box, the first five hitters in the lineup tallied hits for Wawasee. Kameron Salazar led the team with two hits and scored a run for the Warriors in the leadoff position.
Jamie Slabaugh crossed the plate for the other run and had one hit in the game.
Levi Brown and Garcia each had an RBI for Wawasee.
The Warriors play host tonight against Manchester in a nonconference matchup. First pitch is at 5 p.m.

Warsaw Softball Loses To Mishawaka
MISHAWAKA – The Warsaw softball team lost 12-2 in a nonconference showdown at Mishawaka.
The Lady Tigers’ (1-1) defense amassed 10 errors in the contest, while the hosts didn’t commit one.
Despite Mishawaka’s (2-0) 12 runs, the team was limited to six hits during the span of the game.
The scoring started soon for the Lady Cavemen, tallying four in the first, three in the second and four in the third.
Warsaw got on the board in the third inning with a solo home run hit by Adara Frey. Teammate Lindsey Bradley led the team with two hits.
The Lady Tigers play at East Noble on April 10. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
