Help For Addition

Posted

Editor, Times-Union:
I’m a 48-year-old single man. I’ve lived in the Warsaw community since 1993. I’ve been in trouble a few times and have many regrets. I would like to speak now on the Drug Court program in Kosciusko County.
I have been an addict for 35 years. I have several addictions. The worst is my addiction to drugs. I just cannot seem to stay sober for more than two weeks at any given time. I honestly want to learn to live sober but can’t seem to get the right kind of help. I never used a needle before until I was fresh out of prison after a 12-year sentence for armed robbery. This was due to my drug addiction.
I am serving a 10-year sentence for dealing in meth. I tried to get Drug Court and was instantly denied. I tried to get Purposeful Incarceration, which is a program the IDOC offers that will put an offender straight into a therapeutic community program. This has to be ordered by a judge. I was denied twice now.
Before my arrest I went to the Bowen Center seeking help, and because I was unemployed and had no insurance I was turned away in 2013.
I was under the impression that the Drug Court program of Kosciusko County was for those addicted to drugs, those who have been through the Indiana Department of Corrections and have completed their programs. I have completed the P.L.U.S. program, a therapeutic community program, Mothers Against Meth (twice), Celebrate Recovery (twice), and am in the therapeutic community program at Westville Correctional Facility.
How can a man get the help needed to stay sober and out of prison? Is there anyone in the community that can help?
