HB1005

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

As the representative of Warsaw Community School teachers, the Warsaw Community Education Association opposes HB1005.

HB1005 permits the use of $5,000 to $7,000 of public school funds for enrollment in private schools and charter schools. These funds originate from the State public education budget.

Warsaw students deserve adequate funding of public education to establish effective class sizes, to achieve competitive teacher salaries and to provide sufficient instructional materials.

Warsaw teachers are courageously working through the pandemic, providing in-person instruction and delivering distance learning. Now is not the time to divert funding away from public schools.

It is our view that HB1005 will have a negative impact on Warsaw students.
