Hamstra Named Warsaw Assistant Athletic DirectorThe Warsaw Board of School Trustees approved the hiring of Jeffrey Hamstra for the assistant athletic director position at Warsaw Community High School Monday.

While at Grace College, Hamstra did his student-teaching at WCHS. He played on the Lancer baseball and basketball teams, earning eight letters and NAIA scholar-athlete awards. He was basketball team captain for the 2005-06 season.

Hamstra was athletic director at Covenant Christian High School. He also served as a basketball coach at Kankakee Valley. He was  first as an assistant, then spent three seasons as head coach, compiling a 24-41 record with the Kougars.

Most recently Hamstra was a teacher in Munster, where he also assisted with athletics.

“We are excited to have Mr. Hamstra join the WCS team,” said Dr. David Hoffert, superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools. “His expertise and knowledge will be a great asset to our many K-12 extracurricular programs. This position was made possible through the consolidation and cost efficiencies of other supplementary programs.”

Dave Anson, Tiger athletic director, said “we are looking forward to having Jeff join Tiger Athletics. Jeff brings a passion for kids, programs, and he is very familiar with the Warsaw community, having attended Grace and serving as student teacher here. His experience managing programs and working with facilities and event operations will help our department serve our student-athletes, programs and school community much more effectively.”
