NORTH MANCHESTER – H. JoAnne Valentine, 85, of North Manchester, died at 9:35 p.m. Dec. 25, 2011, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
She was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Kosciusko County, to Floyd V. and Marie Fox Newcomer. On Feb. 14, 1948, she married Charles E. “Gene” Valentine, who survives.
A vice president and trust officer, she retired in 1995 from Norwest Bank, formerly Lincoln National Bank, Fort Wayne. She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester. She graduated valedictorian from Sidney High School in 1944. She served on the boards of United Way, YWCA and YMCA. She was the regional chairman of National Bank Woman’s Association. She formerly served as chairperson of Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren Board. She helped to organize the Brethren Benefit Trust. She was a former member of the board of trustees of Manchester College and the board of trustees of Timbercrest Senior Living Community.
Surviving are a son, David E. (and spouse Viv) Valentine, Pretty Lake; a brother, Hubert (and spouse Alice) Newcomer, North Manchester; a sister, Vivian Miller, North Manchester; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at Timbercrest Chapel, North Manchester, officiated by Pastor Kurt Borgmann. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, Sidney.
Calling will follow the service in the assembly room at Timbercrest Senior Living Community.
