We're told forest fires are good at keeping the underbrush obviously trimmed and the forest healthy. If that's true, having fire fighters on call may be a disservice for more natural events.
Assuming there's many more responsible people in any society than really bad or unbalanced people, real "gun control" is actually issuing everyone a means of self protection (a gun), especially if it's always too late to call the police in homicides, saving these officers for lesser disputes. How long would a shooter last, if everyone had a gun to shoot back? If responsible folks are in the minority, do you think this society can last?
Would a Columbine situation ever get started? I spent more than 10 years in Colorado Springs, and the law there regarding guns are "you'd have to show that weapon openly if wanting to arm yourself," just don't saunter into a bank or you maybe carried out, so more than the "guards" are a threat for those miserable folks.
