What a weekend in Warsaw!

Congratulations to the Lake City Skiers on their hosting the Division Two National Ski Tournament this weekend. At the last minute, due to the flooding where the tournament was to be held, this group of local citizens rallied together and made arrangements for the seven teams to compete at Hidden Lake. It was exciting watching these teams compete. As president of the Kosciusko County Convention, Recreation and Visitors commission, I enjoyed chatting with the participants and welcomed their kind comments about the hospitality they were enjoying during their stay.

Also during the weekend, I stopped out at the CCAC to see the action in the all-night softball tournament. Man, was the parking lot full at 11:30 p.m. on Friday night and several hundred people were enjoying the four games in progress. Saturday morning, I took a tour in Winona Lake and enjoyed the Billy Sunday Day with all the activities being held. I noted many people enjoying the Lake City Greenway trail winding through the Village of Winona on its way through the woods to Southtown. Sailboats were gliding on the waters of Winona, kids were playing in the park, teens were engaged in a great basketball game and others enjoyed their picnic lunch in the park.

Completing the weekend, I returned to the shores of Hidden Lake Sunday evening to watch the Lake City Skiers present their dress rehearsal of the show they will take to the Division One National Tournament this weekend in Wisconsin. I was very impressed with the skills displayed by the skiers and the coordination of all that goes into the show. Well over 100 members of the team were involved. The show concluded with 24 skiers building a human pyramid four persons high. Good luck, skiers, as you present your show next weekend.

Who said there is nothing to enjoy in our area? With the price of gas, we can stay right here in our community and enjoy these and many more recreational activities - and all of these without paying any admission fee.
