Editor, Times-Union: This morning on my way to work I turned onto S Lake Street and stopped for a Warsaw Community School bus with its red lights flashing. As I watched, the driver exited the bus to assist a student in a wheelchair board the bus. The student’s parent was also present and aided in getting their child on the bus. My mind raced through several thoughts as I observed this activity. I am glad our school system provides busing for our children. I was very impressed with the training exhibited by the driver as she engaged the flashing lights, departed the bus, lowered the lift to enable her to assist the child getting on the bus and then made sure the student’s wheelchair was properly secured before returning to her driver’s seat. With the cold temperature I thought about all our school bus drivers who get up early to get their buses started and on their way to provide our communities children this service. I was impressed that the parent stayed with their child until his child was safely on the bus. As the bus resumed down Lake Street I realized how many people behind the scenes are involved in providing the quality education available to the students in our community. Yes the teachers are very vital in providing quality education to each of our students, but without the bus drivers, cooks, custodians, teachers’ aides and all the administrators and their staff and school board members providing their valuable service, we would not have the great school corporation we enjoy. My thanks to each person involved in training the children in the Warsaw Community School Corporation. I believe the investment we make in this process has provided our community great dividends.
