Grace College GOAL Students Raise Over $2,600

Posted

Last week an event organized and hosted by students of Grace College’s Grace Opportunities for Adult Learners program raised money for a local couple, Derek and Leanne Lavender. Derek was seriously injured this past summer in a motorcycle accident.

The students, along with their professor, Matt Metzger, wanted to live out the Bible verse “Love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

The culinary event was held at Gordon Recreational Center. More than 100 friends, family and neighbors showed up to help raise funds for the Lavender family. The food was donated by Cerulean, Maple Leaf Farms, Metzger Trucking, Teresa Boyer, Walmart and La Consentida. In addition, Susan Grill and Midwest Rake donated items that were sold in a silent auction.

Overall, the event raised more than $2,600. Students in Metzger’s class, pictured above, are (L to R): Cassandra Cook, Eric Fletcher, Dean Corson, David Summe, Aletha Dobbins, Jenna DeFord, Zach West and Ingrid Solorzano. Not pictured are Rachel Rossman and Teresa Boyer.
