At one time, President Obama promised that all legislation would be put up on the Internet for one week for the public to have a chance to see it before it would be voted on. Unfortunately, he and many of our representatives seem to have forgotten that promise.

The stimulus package earlier this year was voted on in one day by our representatives who did not even have a chance to read the 1,000-page bill let alone the public being given the opportunity to see the bill. Even today they are finding things in the bill that most representatives didn't know was in the legislation. Obama claimed, if the bill wasn't passed immediately, our economy would not be able to recover. He then waited until the following Tuesday to sign the bill. If he wasn't going to sign the bill for four days, why weren't the legislators given those four days to read and discuss such an important piece of legislation?

On Friday, the House of Representatives voted on a huge, expensive piece of legislation called Cap and Trade (climate change bill). This energy bill will, along with many other problems, cause our utility bills to jump substantially in the future. Obama, himself, even stated during the campaign that Cap and Trade would cause electricity costs to skyrocket. Once again the public wasn't given the opportunity to review the legislation that will affect their lives in many ways. In fact, our representatives didn't have time to review the bill and a 300-page amendment was added by the Democrats at 3 a.m. Friday morning that no one had time to properly review. After only five hours of discussion the Democrats forced a vote Friday evening.

Now, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are already saying that they won't give the public the Obama-promised week to review the coming health care legislation before it is voted on. What is it about their health care plan that they don't want us to see?

The legislation that is being rammed down our throats are power grabs by our government, pure and simple. We are going to wake up soon and find that the government is making all our decisions for us unless we begin to speak up. We still have time to stop Cap and Trade in the Senate. Educate yourself and then call Senators Lugar and Bayh with your opinion.
