Goshert Has Fresh Ideas

Editor, Times-Union:

We are writing today in support of our friend, Sheriff Rocky Goshert. We have known Rocky for over 30 years.  We always look forward to getting together with the Gosherts, especially at our annual Super Bowl parties. We know Rocky to be a man of faith, honor and integrity.

As voters in this county, we can think of no one more qualified to serve as sheriff for the next four years than Rocky. He's already done the job, and he's done it well.  When he took over the sheriff's department last year, he hit the ground running, implementing an impressive number of new programs to address the problem of drug-addicted  inmates in the jail.

He's also brought fresh ideas to the table, like the SchoolGuard app, which gives law enforcement and teachers a new tool for dealing with active school shooter situations. The app would allow teachers to both summon law enforcement and let everyone know the location of the shooter with the push of a button. It would reduce police response time.  It would help others within the school building make a decision whether to run or barricade themselves. We know that one of Rocky's opponents has proclaimed that he doesn't like the app, but we cannot for the life of us understand why. If, God forbid, this county ever has to deal with a school shooter, then every second will count. Faster response times could save lives!

We hope that you'll take Rocky's character, his experience and his new ideas into account when voting this year.
