Good Neighbor

Editor, Times-Union:

I would like to take this opportunity to respond to an article in Saturday's paper regarding the vandalism in the neighborhood surrounding Rex's Rendezvous.

My family has owned and operated Rex's since 1977. Our business has been a tavern since 1933, making it one of the oldest surviving businesses in the downtown area. Since opening as Rex's Rendezvous, we have tried to be a good neighbor and cognizant of any issues regarding our direct neighbors or the downtown area. It has been our desire to provide a good breakfast, lunch, dinner and place of respite for everyone in the community.

I would like to personally and publicly express my regrets to Dennie House for any destruction or vandalism that has occurred to property left outside of their business. It is difficult for me to personally oversee all hours of operation as we are open from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m.

It is our policy to walk the area surrounding Rex's (sidewalks, parking lots and alleys) at the end and beginning of each day's business. To be fair, some things are missed, however, a concerted effort is made. I personally power wash the sidewalks surrounding Rex's at least twice a year. We are considerate to any and all concerns of local law enforcement. We diligently tried to do everything in our power to eliminate any disturbances or disruption to neighbors or the community that our business may create. I have personally been in contact with the chief of police to correct any problems or concerns that he may have.

This year will mark our 27th annual Poker-Run with proceeds going to local charities. It has always been my desire to give back to a community that has given so much to us. I have always tried to help people from all walks of life in any way that I can.

I look forward to meeting with Mayor Wiggins as a friend to dispel or correct any impact our business has upon the community. I would like to thank Warsaw for their continued patronage and support.
