God Will Raise Up Others

Editor, Times-Union:

Today I was reading one of Robert E. Lee's letters written just after both the battle of Chancellorsville and the accidental shooting of Gen. Stonewall Jackson, in the dark and by his own men. Lee spoke of Stonewall's "indomitable courage" and his tremendous influence. Gen. Lee wrote, “(Jackson's) ... spirit lives with us. I hope (Stonewall's influence) will raise up many Jacksons in our ranks."

This reminded me of the recent shooting of the courageous Hoosier, Charles Wesco, recent missionary to Cameroon, Africa. I had the privilege to preach once again to Charles and his large family in Winona Lake in August. I have in the past preached for his dear father at their church in South Bend.

The Lord allowed Stonewall to be shot by friendly fire in the Civil War. God also allowed His servant, Charles, to be shot in the midst of a firefight this week in Cameroon.

Just as Gen. Lee hoped that God would raise up other godly "Jacksons" to replace him, may the same Lord raise up other Hoosier missionaries to be spokesmen for God.

Yours for the memory of a godly Hoosier.
