Wawasee Advances Swimmers To Sectional Finals
MIDDLEBURY – The Wawasee Lady Warriors competed in the preliminary round of sectional action Thursday night. Hosted at Northridge High School, the top eight finishers in each event move on to the finals.
The Lady Warriors had swimmers advance in six events; three individuals and three relays.
Ella Park paved the way for Wawasee, advancing in two races. She swam a 2:01.31 in the 200-yard freestyle and a 5:22.30 in the 500-yard freestyle races to move on. Rileigh Atwood had a time of 1:07.87 in the 100-yard breaststroke, allowing her to advance to the finals.
The 400-yard free relay of Alyssa Koch, Caitlin Kingrey, Park and Atwood finished fourth in the race. The team of Elizabeth Brugh, Tessa Freel, Park and Atwood will race in the 200-yard free relay on Saturday. The 200-yard medley relay group of Abigail Hackleman, Isabelle Brunner, Brugh and Freel move on as well.
Wawasee will compete on Saturday at Northridge, the meet will begin a 9 a.m.
Briner Finishes First In Two Events At Sectional Preliminaries
Manchester, Tippecanoe Valley and Warsaw participated in the girls swim sectional Thursday night at Warsaw Community High School.
For the Lady Squires, Halle Briner will advance in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard free races, finishing in first in both. Cora Barnett will move on in the 100-yard butterfly.
The 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard free teams of Lillian Myers, Skye Fierstos, Briner and Barnett will both advance to the finals.
Mayde Fear finished in the top eight in the 100-yard backstroke, clinching a spot in the finals for Tippecanoe Valley. Olivia Livengood moves on in the 100-yard butterfly. Ava Craig, Jerzey Conley, Fear and Livengood will swim on Saturday in the 400-yard free relay.
Warsaw has swimmers advancing in 11 events. Eight are individual races and three are relays.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Lauren Kuhl and Leah Reinholt placed in the top eight. Delaney Wihebrink, Ella Knight and Madelyn Ray wil swim in the 100-yard breaststroke during the finals. Laurel Moeller advances in the 200-yard free.
Olivia Herman, Morgan Bruner and Izabella Coffing advance in the 50-yard free. Taylor Gunter and Wihebrink will compete against one another in the 200-yard individual medley on Saturday.
Reinholt, Bruner and Herman move on the 100-yard free race. Gunter advances in the 100-yard butterfly. Lauren Kuhl and Moeller finished in the top four during the 500-yard free, allowing them to swim in the finals.
The 200-yard free relay of Gracie Scholl, Coffing, Gunter and Moeller advance to the finals. Bruner, Reinholt, Coffing and Kuhl move on in the 400-yard free relay. Racing in the finals is the Lady Tigers’ 200-yard medley relay (Kuhl, Gunter, Herman and Bruner).
The finals will be held on Saturday at Warsaw High School, the event will begin at 9 a.m.
