Editor, Times-Union: If you have not read the book “Gifted Hands,” the Ben Carson story, you need to read it. If you have not watched the movie “Gifted Hands,” you need to rent or get the DVD and watch it. In 1987, he struggled to find a way to separate Patrick and Benjamin Binder, who were joined at the back of their heads (craniopagus Siamese twins), without them bleeding to death. The movie shows how he poured over medical books, and thought and thought how it might work. The answer was found in a dripping kitchen faucet which gave him the solution. You just have to see the movie. I’m sure that whatever great idea Dr. Ben Carson will present now, he will use the same determination to find right and workable answers for our ailing nation. Down the road, some things might have to be reconsidered, or tweaked, as he will also draw from the wisdom of others. He definitely knows how to do that.
