PIERCETON - Gail R. Bowman, 91, Pierceton, passed away at 8:55 p.m. Jan. 21, 2011, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Decatur, to Charles A. and Velma O. Lenhart Bowman. On Sept. 9, 1940, in La Fontaine, he married Betty L. Weicht, who preceded him in death in May 1966.

He grew up in Rockford and attended public schools there before moving to the Pierceton area. He was a self-employed carpenter and formerly worked at Weatherhead Corp., Columbia City, for 10 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a life member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Syracuse. He was a former member of Moose Lodge, Bradenton, Fla., where he lived for 30 years before returning to Pierceton.

Surviving are a son, Samuel E. (and spouse Diana) Bowman, Pierceton; a granddaughter, Kelly M. (and spouse Tony) McMillen, Fort Wayne; a grandson, Eric E. Bowman, Pierceton; a great-granddaughter, Megan McMillen, Fort Wayne; a brother, Jim Bowman, Bluffton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; companion, Em; a sister, Madelyn Mosure; and a brother, Kenneth Bowman.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, officiated by Pastor Mike Beezley of Clunette United Methodist Church. Military rites will be by members of American Legion Post 253, North Webster. Burial will be in private in Rockford Cemetery.
