AKRON – G. Wayne Reese, 96, of 2115 Banyan Way, Sebring, Fla., and formerly of Akron, passed at 5:07 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at Highland Medical Center of Sebring.
He was born on March 27, 1922, in Fulton County, to Lloyd and Donna Collins Reese. He was married on Oct. 8, 1947, in Rochester, to Bernice E. Thompson. She survives.
Wayne was an over-the-road truck driver for 45 years, hauling farm equipment.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and, among other decorations, he was awarded two Bronze Stars.
He attended the Akron Church of God for many years and was involved in bus ministry. Also, more recently he had attended the Athens Community Church. He was known for mowing many yards all over Akron.
He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and wintering in Florida, which they have done for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Reese, Sebring; sons, Orville (and wife Julie) Reese, Akron; and Randy (and wife Roseanna) Reese, Port Richey, Fla., and Akron; daughter-in-law, Laura Reese, Akron; foster daughters, Teresa Dosh, Albuquerque, N.M., and Barbara Oster, Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Maxine (and husband Dale) Fish, Rochester, and Bonnie (and husband Wayne Baker, Mentone; brother, Richard (and wife Cora) Jean Reese, Denver, Ind.; and nine foreign exchange students.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Donna Reese; son, Calvin Reese (2000); and brothers, Gene and Maynard Reese.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Pastors Wanda Carter and Luke Vasicek of the Athens Community Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
