Flooding Help

World Compassion Network, a Warsaw-based disaster relief charity, responded to a call for help in Findlay, Ohio. On Aug. 21, the Blanchard River spilled over its banks and flooded about 50 percent of the city. It was called a 100-year flood. Hundreds of businesses were flooded and thousands of home were filled with muddy water. The Red Cross set up a disaster processing center at a local recreation center, and by the second day it was filled to capacity.

World Compassion Network filled their truck in Silver Lake with bottled water, non-perishable foods, paper products, personal hygiene packs and flood buckets. The flood buckets are 5-gallon plastic pales filled with items needed to clean up homes after a flood.

Upon arrival at the disaster processing center, World Compassion Network was directed to the United Methodist Church of Van Buren, Ohio, to off load the supplies. Pastor Dan Metzger, pastor of the church, put announcements on the TV and radio stations. He reported to Joe Wilkey, executive director of World Compassion Network, that all the supplies were distributed within a few hours. He has requested additional food buckets.
