The first event in the 2017 First Friday lineup is “Fire & Ice.” Planned for Feb. 3 in downtown Warsaw, the event will feature ice sculpture carving from noon to 9 p.m. on the courthouse square. Also featured will be ice skating at the plaza, sponsored by First Federal of Rochester, Julia Moore and the Bailey Moore Foundation. An ice rink will be constructed in the city hall parking lot. Skaters can bring their own skates or rental skates will be available. There is still time to apply for a Fire & Ice sculpture. Applications are available at wcdc.org. “The weather this year should be perfect for the sculptures to last a while,” said Paula Bowman, Warsaw Community Development Corporation director. She checked long-range forecasts and said temperatures should remain below freezing for several days following the event. All downtown merchants are encouraged to take part. Cost is $250 for a 300-pound block. A 600-pound block is $350. Bowman also announced the schedule for other First Friday events in 2017 March 3 – Merchant Madness. April 7 – Spring Break Escape. May 5 – Musical May. June 2 – Shriner Parade. July 7 – Central Park Showcase (not downtown.) Aug. 4 – Baker Youth Club Car Show. Sept. 1 – Serenity House. Oct. 6 – Spooktacular.
