Everyone Blames St. Paul

Poor St. Paul! Everyone wants to claim Jesus as an advocate for their cause and blame St. Paul for everything they don't like about Christianity.

Mohammad claimed Jesus was a Muslim prophet. But since much of the New Testament doesn't agree with Islam, Mohammad blamed Paul (David Wood, "Paul vs. Mohammad," Houseform Apologetics video). Adolf Hitler claimed Jesus was an Aryan culture hero who thwarted "International Jewry's" plan to take over the world (“The Psychopathic God Adolf Hitler” by Robert G. L. Waite, page 27). "The Jew Paul he said was responsible for emasculating Christianity with appeals to love and brotherhood. Brotherhood! Pacifism! Drivel! And the Jew triumphant!” (ibid. 117 and page 32 footnote).

Even liberals revise the Gospel. Robert Graves wrote “The Nazarene Gospel Restarted” and likened St. Paul to Simon Magus, who got back at Jesus by deifying Him! This same idea was used in the book and movie “The Last Temptation of Christ.” Blame Paul!

Liberals since the 1960s have tried to sign Jesus up for their various causes. They portray Him as a hippie peacenik tip-toeing through the tulips and scattering rose petals while He preaches free love, unilateral disarmament, abortion on demand and gay marriage. Supposedly Paul ruined the love-in with hellfire and brimstone. But actually the opposite is true. Jesus preached about hell and the final judgment (Mark 9:48, Matt. 25:31-48).

Paul preached more about love than anyone in the Bible. Paul wrote I Corinthians 13, the famous love chapter, this man the liberals call "a hate-monger."

C.S. Lewis pointed out that this "blame Paul" strategy just sets us up for the real goal — an attack on Jesus (“God In the Dock,” “Modern Translations of the Bible,” pages 232, 233).
