Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
Kosciusko County Commissioners honored Earl Evans, 92, as the Veteran of The Month at Tuesday’s commissioners meeting.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was commissioned as a gunner on the SS Thomas Eakins, which then headed to France. He later joined the crew of the USS?Elmore APA 42, which then sailed to the Pacific Theater, arriving after the invasion of Japan and picked up U.S. military personnel who were headed home.
Evans was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned home to Warsaw where he worked as a livestock dealer and in the heavy construction industry. He still lives on the family farm.
