ROCHESTER – Edward M. King, 91, Rochester, passed away at 2:52 a.m. Feb. 3, 2016, at his residence.
He was born June 8, 1924, in Talma, to Fred and Elma Crum King. On Nov. 3, 1950, in Rochester, he married Juanita Thompson, who preceded him in death May 19, 2015.
He grew up on his family farm and served with the United States Army from 1948 to 1949. He early in life had worked for the Bendix Corporation, South Bend, and retired from the United States Postal Service with over 30 years of service. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, carving, woodworking, chatting over coffee with his friends at McDonald’s, and most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include his four children: Susan (and spouse Rick) Hart, Mentone; Doug (and spouse Vickie) King, New Carlisle; John (and spouse Jackie) King, Florida; Scott (and spouse Amy) King, Rochester; a son-in-law, Mike Thompson; eight grandchildren: Penny Ringle (and spouse Jason) Sharp, Ohio; Gretchen Hart (and spouse Johnny) Wadkins, Bourbon; Jordan, Jeremy, Jason, Jaimee, Jennifer, Janna King, all of Rochester; a granddaughter-in-law, Shannon Hart, Kingman; a stepgrandson, Greg Miller, South Bend; 10 great-grandchildren: Zachary and Samantha Sharp, Ohio; Aubrey and Aidan Hart, Kingman; Braeden, Grant, Sadie, Addy and Oakley Wadkins, all of Bourbon; a great-great-grandson, Michael Sharp, Ohio; three sisters: Elvira (and spouse Gerald) Romine, Mentone; Charlotte (and spouse Richard) Massey, Arkansas; Julie Faulkner, Bremen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jo Ellen Thompson; a grandson, Aaron Hart; a great-grandson, Caleb Hart; and three sisters, Hazel Kercher, Ruby Dinwoodie and Frances Miller.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with Dr. Mark Spencer officiating. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans’ Honor Guard.
Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to service Thursday at the funeral home.
