Easter's Approach

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

Soon, Easter will be here.

We hope that when it arrives, it will be on a bright, sunny morning when the flowers start to bloom, and the birds are sending their lyrical, melodious message from the fresh, verdant treetops. Whenever Easter occurs on a bright, warm, sunny day, that's when the ladies are happiest. That's when they can display their beautiful Easter finery, their colorful, new spring frocks, and (in years gone by) their "Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it" (which doesn't apply to the present time, for very few ladies wear hats, anymore.)

There's just something beautiful and exhilarating about going to church and sharing breakfast with your friends and neighbors on Easter morning. That's when the tempting, delectable aroma of scrambled eggs, bacon and fresh perked coffee titillate the olfactory senses, but Easter means more than that. When you sit at the breakfast table in church on Easter morning with the rest of the congregation, you get the feeling that, for the moment, you are in a sacred place, which inspires you to have nothing but the desire to show complete love and affection toward everyone around you, and you feel as though nothing can touch you except the holy, consecrated hand of God.

On Easter morning, in the house of the Almighty, we lowly mortals are all gloriously and reverently aware of the fact that a powerful, triumphant Easter hymn says it all, "Christ the Lord is risen today! Alleluia!"
