My name is Kristi Bucher and I am supporting Kyle Dukes in the upcoming sheriff's election. For people who know me, you might be thinking, "Of course you are supporting Kyle Dukes, he is your brother." Family is important to us Dukes, and I am proud to be Kyle's sister and proud for everyone to know it. But not only am I Kyle's sister, but I'm also the proud wife of a Kosciusko County sheriff's deputy. I understand deeply and personally the serious issues our sheriff's department faces.
Growing up in our family we were encouraged to always be positive. I recently read a letter to the editor that stated Kyle has been presenting negative issues. I tend to disagree. The topics Kyle presents are simply facts — real concerns we face in Kosciusko County, and real solutions. Areas including mending the relationships between all law enforcement departments, improving school safety, developing one drug task force and combating the opioid addiction problem.
One candidate claims the "fresh start" started in June 2017 with the new restructuring of current supervisors. It was also said that the current administration is sending the deputies to trainings. Judging by the photos in the paper and social media, it is only a select few that are getting to utilize those training opportunities, but it doesn't appear to be the road deputies. However, it's the road deputies who would be the ones most needing the training for their day-to-day jobs.
I have also seen a few people knocking Kyle's "experience." Kyle may be the youngest candidate in the race, but let's face it: Someone with more than 17 years in law enforcement has ample experience to be qualified for the position of sheriff. Regardless, the most important issue in this sheriff's election isn't decades and decades of experience, but Kosciusko County's need for a fresh start.
For the fresh perspective and fresh ideas to make Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department the best it can be, there is no more qualified candidate than Kyle Dukes.
