I retired after 35 years as an educator. For 22 of those years I was a high school administrator, principal and superintendent. While at Warsaw Community High School I worked closely with both Kosciusko County and Warsaw City police departments and at times, community police chiefs. I had an excellent working relationship with all branches of law enforcement.
From the above experiences I understand that open communication and mutual support in our law enforcement community are needed. This is especially evident after the division that has occurred over the last year among the county and city departments and the failed communication between the two Drug Task Forces. The need for new leadership is evident as pictured in the paper with nine law enforcement officials with a man that they trust and want as their new sheriff, Kyle Dukes.
I've been fortunate to know Kyle through our membership with the Morning Optimist Club in Warsaw over the past several years. Kyle is positive and an excellent communicator. He is forward thinking. He is a man. I trust him to be the right man for the job as sheriff of Kosciusko County and am proud to work alongside him during the campaign.
Kyle has 17 years of experience as a trooper with the Indiana State Police and over two years with the Noble County Sheriff’s Department as a reserve deputy. Not only is he a graduate of the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy, but Kyle also holds an associate degree in supervision from Ivy Tech and a bachelor's degree in business management from Tri-State (aka Trine) University.
Kyle has lived in Kosciusko County for 17 years with his wife, Mindy, who are the proud parents of two boys, Keaton, age 14, and Kane, age 10. Kyle is also the president of the Lakeland Youth Center, managing employees and the budget. These experiences are invaluable as he prepares for his new role.
Kyle has understood for a long time that we must address the drug epidemic immediately by first viewing the jail inmates as needing help, not just incarceration. Kyle believes that the entire county must be involved in not only addressing that drug crisis together in one organization, but also by involving the town marshals and county officers in training and in improving communication with them. This will also improve the dialogue among all the communities within our county and aid in curtailing the drug epidemic and other crimes. Further evidence in his reaching out to communicate with all citizens is contained in his website, www.dukesforsheriff.com. He wants to hear from you.
Being the county sheriff for 10 years is too long for any individual. We need fresh ideas, new methods and open communication. Yes, Kyle Dukes can do all of that. Kyle is the answer to foster interdepartmental cooperation among all of the community police departments and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department. He is the only candidate that does not have ties to the county department. He is the answer for leading all of the qualified men and women of the sheriff’s department to a fresh start in our great county. Vote Kyle Dukes for sheriff of Kosciusko County on May 8, 2018!
