Dukes For Sheriff

Posted

Editor, Times-Union:

Everyone knows that the position of sheriff is one of the most important county offices a person can have. While Kosciusko County is blessed to have several qualified candidates, only one stands apart and is the only candidate who is deserving of being the next sheriff of Kosciusko County, and that is Kyle Dukes.

What sets Kyle Dukes apart? First, he’s not with the sheriff’s department, so the fact he’s on the outside gives him the best chance to see the department with a fresh perspective.  Plus, Kyle Dukes has the endorsement of seven of the nine chiefs of police of local police departments throughout the county. If city and town police departments endorse a candidate, that says a lot. It shows that there is discord between the county and local police departments.

While I have tremendous respect for Sheriff Goshert, it is important to remember that during the whole Rovenstine fiasco, Sheriff Goshert was given immunity from prosecution for his testimony. To this day, he’s not offered any explanation for his actions, and to me, that is important. We need a new person to bring back a sense of integrity and restore the public trust between citizens and law enforcement, while at the same time, reminding all law enforcement in Kosciusko County that they are on the same team.

The job of sheriff is important, and there is only one person who can make Kosciusko County the place to raise a family, and that man is Kyle Dukes. Join me in supporting Kyle Dukes in the primary on May 8.
