LIGONIER – Duane E. Baxter, 77, of Bremen, passed away at 6:08 a.m. Feb. 28, 2012, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Valley Center, Kan., to George C. and Lela D. Fagan Baxter. On May 16, 1974, in Cromwell, he married Shirley Taylor, who survives.

He was an avid treasurer hunter, using his metal detector frequently and enjoyed NASCAR. When he was younger he loved to ice skate and play hockey and was even blessed to ice skate on his 76th birthday.

Also surviving are two daughters, Ladeana (and spouse Dave) Taylor, Puyallup, Wash., and Lorinda Howard, Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren, Heather Livingston and Dylan and Drue Taylor; and two great-granddaughters, Shyann Jordan and Autem Olivia Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ligonier Evangelical Church with Pastor Troy Diersing officiating. A cremation committal will be at Legacy Cremation and Remembrance Center, Ligonier.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway S., Ligonier.
