Editor, Times-Union: This letter is in response to the stand that Lisa Niles made by walking to the county jail in support of her son, Brad Niles. You go, girl! That’s the way you get things accomplished.
I want to give you some ideas that will help you with this issue. There is an upcoming election for circuit judge. The candidates are two local attorneys, Stephen Harris and Michael Reed. Call these guys or set up a meeting with them with a list of questions that address your concerns. Ask them, if they are elected will they start a drug court and start doing some alternative sentencing for non-violent drug offenders that fit the criterua instead of locking people up with addiction problems for years.
Have your friends and family do the same. A circuit judge has the power to make the changes you are seeking. This is a contested seat so make sure you vote and support the candidate that will do the best job for the community. After you make your pick, get your candidate’s plans and ideas out there to everyone so it will attract people to vote for your candidate. This is really the only way a change can be made.
