Dr. Robert Thomas Pfeiffer, 90, of 1310 E. Island View Drive, Warsaw, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Oct.31, 2010, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Aug. 29, 1920, in Fort Wayne, to Charles and Mary Marshall Pfeiffer. On June 9, 1945, in San Diego, Calif., he married Isobel Rarick, who survives.
He graduated from Clay Township High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Manchester College in 1942. He was in the U.S. Navy through 1946 then attained a master's degree at Stanford University. They moved to Warsaw while he taught for two years at Columbia City High School. They moved to Aurora, Ill., where he taught at the university, then moved to Bloomington, receiving his doctorate degree. After his doctorate degree, they moved to East Lansing, Mich., where he was an associate professor at Michigan State. They finally settled in Kent, Ohio, for 30 years as he was the director of student teaching at Kent State. After leaving from Kent State, they moved to Carrollton, Ga., for six years then retired back to Warsaw for the past 11 years. His hobbies included gardening, traveling, reading and he was a collector of original art prints. They delivered Meals on Wheels in the community, tutored at the Literacy Center and were avid bridge players. He was a lifetime educator.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, and a member of the American Legion Post 49 Warsaw.
Also surviving are a sister, Mary Ruth Finster, Kokomo; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Marsh, Warsaw; three nieces: Debbie Plummer, Warsaw; Randa Franklin, Winona Lake; and Dawn Cluts, Virginia; and two nephews, Greg Marsh, Portage, and Kent Pfeiffer, Wolcottville. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Pfeiffer, and a brother-in-law, Cleon Marsh, of Warsaw.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with the Rev. Andy Martin officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, both in Warsaw.
