It has occurred to me that perhaps an overwhelming number of disgruntled Americans are protesting and demonstrating against something they have misunderstood for most of their lives. Something they once learned in a history, or civics or government class in school ... something that was perhaps being taught and explained while they were catching a few z's or 40 winks in class because they were bored.
That something is the definition of democracy and what it means to belong to a democratic society/country. The official definition of democracy is "a system of government by the whole population or all eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives." NOTICE it says nothing about political PARTIES ... nothing about belonging to a Republican or Democratic or Independent or Libertarian, or Socialist or any other organized or unorganized party.
The definition of a democratic (small d) society/country is one that supports democracy. NOTICE it does not say that the country or society is or must be run by Democrats – members of the Democrat party – (capital D).
There is a difference. If hundreds or thousands or millions of people are pissed off because they think their adversaries are fighting to maintain a Democratic (capital D) country, when those adversaries are really fighting to maintain a democratic (small d) country, then the solution is simple: GET A GRIP, FOLKS. DIG OUT YOUR OLD, DUSTY HISTORY BOOKS. (As if anyone ever kept them!) RE-EDUCATE YOURSELVES. YOU ARE EMBARRASSING YOURSELVES!!
The United States has two main parties: Democrat and Republican. These parties are built on certain ideologies and philosophies. A democratic society is formed when these two parties share their platforms, discuss and even argue them, and then come to a consensus as to how best to keep our democratic (small d) country running smoothly.
People of all parties or no parties need to stop and ask themselves what exactly they are fighting for. If it is not for the democratic (small d) rights of our "whole population," then SHAME ON YOU! YOU HAVE JUST FLUNKED HISTORY, CIVICS and GOVERNMENT 101.
