Defending Trump

Posted

Editor, Times-Union:
I attended the No Kings protest after I left work on Saturday the 14th. I figured it would be peaceful since we are far more civilized in Indiana than they are on both coasts. It was nice to be in opposition to most of what the people believed and not be beat up. There were some guys with Trump flags driving by that yelled at them. But I was expecting that. At least no one threw anything at them.
I also expected to hear propaganda and wasn't disappointed. One guy was angry with me when I pointed out that Trump wanted at least 1,000 National Guard troops to surround the Capitol on January 6 to prevent rioting. Nancy Pelosi even admitted she should have allowed the National Guard to come to Washington like Trump wanted. I guess the man had believed the propaganda he had heard from a media that was like the media in the old Soviet Union. The Soviets lied about how America was and expected the people to believe them. CNN and MSNBC remind me of Pravda.
People asked me if I watched Fox News and I proudly said I did. The anger of the people who heard that reminded me of how the Soviets and Nazis reacted. They didn't want to believe the truth because it went against what they were led to believe. When someone wondered why the National Guard was sent to Los Angeles when there were only two instances of violence I told them the police were being attacked and they wouldn't believe me even though they could have seen it on TV.
There were people at the protest that might have believed Trump said over 30,000 lies during his first term. I've never seen the list because it doesn't exist because Trump probably didn't say 10% of what people believed he said. They also believe he committed 34 felonies which were actually misdemeanors at the worst. If I knew he had paid hush money in 2016 and still voted for him and almost no one thought a legal business expense was a crime, you would have to be a never-Trumper to consider him a criminal.
I pointed out that Obama attacked nonprofit organizations that opposed him by sicking the IRS on them to limit their freedom of speech. Trump hasn't been a dictator like Obama and Biden were. Biden should have been impeached because he actually did criminal acts. Trump opposes mutilating children like Democrats do. Fascists believe the government should control the lives of the citizens. Sounds like what Democrats believe. I didn't expect to change minds. But when we do have a dictator in the future, I hope people are willing to protest against them.
