Deer Hazard

Editor, Times-Union:

This morning at about 4:30, my fiance and I were driving down County Farm Road coming out of Warsaw. Between the four-way stop by Warsaw Community Church and the elementary and the church at the other four-way, we spotted a deer lying in the middle of the road dead. My fiance, who was driving, didn't see it in time to move safely to the other side of the road, so we hit the deer. Hitting the deer caused our car to turn sideways and barely miss the telephone pole, landing us into the corn field. Thankfully we were only going about 35-40 miles per hour when we hit the deer, otherwise, the vehicle would have probably flipped.

I am four-months pregnant with my first child. I believe if we would have hit the telephone pole and/or flipped in the corn field, I would have lost my unborn child. All that would have happened just because someone doesn't know how to clean up their mess.

After my fiance and I had collected ourselves and calmed down, we went out and moved the deer to the ditch before another car hit it. I just want to remind people about the dangers of "deer season" and remind them to drive slowly, carefully and if you do hit a deer, please move it out of the way or call and report it so someone can move it. Just because of someone's laziness and carelessness, my unborn child was put in danger.

Please! Just be more cautious and not so lazy. Do the right thing.
