The new president of Ivy Tech Community College’s Warsaw campus was introduced to facility and staff ?Monday afternoon. Allyn Decker took over as president of the campus on Jan. 2. He previously was the Orthopedic Regulatory and Clinical Affairs graduate program director and Medical Device Quality Management program director at Grace College. Prior to working at Grace, Decker worked in the banking industry. Decker took over the position from interim president Michael Salvkin. The informal gathering was held at the Ivy Tech campus and gave Decker his first chance to meet with the staff, who were just coming back from winter break. Decker met with teachers and staff in preparation for the new semester. Decker said he looks forward to working with the students and staff at the college. “There’s a lot great opportunities to be had here,” Decker said. Decker said his goals include expanding enrollment and continuing the community partnership in Warsaw. Decker said it’s important for people to know that the school is here so they can get new people in the many vocational jobs in the area. Ivy Tech offers many vocational certificates and two-year degree programs, Decker said. Thomas Conley, chancellor of the Ivy Tech North Central/Northwest Region, said he picked Decker because of his experience and his connections in the community. “He’s prominent in the community, he has a lot of a lot partnerships in his previous positions,” Conley said. The Warsaw campus has about 700 students enrolled and around 40 staff members. Decker is originally from Michigan, but settled in the Warsaw about 33 years ago after he graduated college. Decker and his wife, Vicky, have two adult daughters, Alyssa and Anna. Decker said he enjoys golf and the outdoors in his spare time.
