INDIANAPOLIS - David Vincent McGlynn, 67, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Warsaw, died June 29, 2007.
He was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Hartford City, to Vincent and Emily McGlynn, who preceded him in death. The son of a Pentecostal minister, he was raised with a love of God that was evident throughout his life. His first marriage was to Brenda Johnson (Houtz). He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cathie Lee McGlynn.
He graduated from Fairmount High School; attended Manchester College; earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Grace College, Winona Lake; received a master's degree in elementary education from Indiana University, Fort Wayne; and did postgraduate work at Indiana University and Purdue University.
His early work years were spent at Paranite Wire, Uniroyal and R.R. Donnelley & Sons. When he received his education degree he taught at Leesburg Elementary in the Warsaw Community Schools. He and his devoted wife, Cathie, together decided to take an opportunity to move to Bismarck, N.D., where he sold orthopedic appliances for DePuy Inc. Upon returning to Indiana, he worked in the dean's office at IU School of Medicine, and was a deputy director of the Medical Professions Bureau for Indiana. But teaching remained his real love, and he returned to education to teach fourth grade at Harrison Parkway in Hamilton Southeastern Schools. He imparted not only the curriculum to his students, but a love of life and a sense of self worth that his students and their parents treasured most of all.
He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis. He was humbled to have served as moderator of deacons and had just completed a term as elder. He was instrumental in the success of the newly formed hospitality team, served as an usher, was a supporter of the Fine Arts and Missions and was a willing servant of God for whatever was needed. He was a part of the interdenominational Great Banquet and was blessed with enduring friendships from that community.
David will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Also surviving are five children, who love and will miss him very much: Mrs. Charles (Nanette) Steele and Natalie Henry, both of Warsaw; Mrs. DJ (Lori) Haring, Milford; Barry (and wife Julie) McGlynn, Island Lake, Ill.; and Mrs. John (Heather) Nixon, Carmel; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings: Mrs. George (Vera) Webb; Richard (and wife Jean) McGlynn; and Mrs. Ron (Nikki) Deck; many nieces nephews; his mother-in-law, Katie Melton; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gretchen and Craig Gosling. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Havens and Lois Ann Johnson.
