SYRACUSE - David L. Welker, 64, of Barbee Road, Warsaw, died at 11:25 p.m. May 4, 2009, in his residence.

He was born Sept. 29, 1944, in Huntington, to Hersel and and Margaret Hough Welker. On Jan. 7, 1984, he married Diana J. Foley, who survives.

Moving to this area from Huntington 34 years ago, he was head custodian at Wawasee Middle School and previously owned Barbee Landing and Foley and Welker Jewelers, Plymouth. He was a lifetime member and past commander of North Webster American Legion Post 253, Kosciusko County 40&8 Voiture, a lifetime member of Syracuse Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cromwell Masonic Lodge and a former member of North Webster Lions. He was a Vietnam U.S. Navy veteran serving two tours of duty.

Surviving are two sons, David V. (and spouse Kari) Welker, Noblesville, and Joseph K. (and spouse Kelle) Welker, Plymouth; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four sisters: Patty (and spouse Joe) Hefferon, St. Augustine, Fla.; Peggy (and spouse Allen) Young, North Webster; Sandra (and spouse Kenneth) Sharp, Warsaw; and Sally (and spouse Bill) Johnson, Decatur. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas L. Welker.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, with Pastor Brad Cox officiating. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition, with military honors by members of the North Webster American Legion.
